Dear Aunt Sealia is the newsletter column to answer questions.
Dear Aunt Sealia, I saw that nice TV and VCR/DVD player in the community room and would like to use it. What are the rules for use and when may it be used? Movie Buff
Dear MB, That is a nice setup they have there. Anyone who wants to may use the TV and VCR/DVD player. The rules for using it are:
These rules will be posted by the TV soon. Hope you found this helpful. Sealia
Dear Aunt Sealia, It seems every time there is an event here we have to pay to attend. Why is that? When I first moved in most things were free. Now I hear we may have to pay more than usual for the Holiday party this year. I am getting tired of this. Help!
Wants To Be Entertained for Free
Dear WTBEFF, I hear your frustration and I sympathize, but as the song says, “times they are a changing”. Events were free several years ago for a couple of reasons: there was more money in the treasury and we had an adopter who sponsored many activities. Now if we want to have a party or organize a trip somewhere the resident council pays for it. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to ask those residents who wish to take part to help with the cost. Arrangements can be worked out for those who are unable to afford the asked amount. You say you want free entertainment, so I wonder what you have done to help bring that about. There are many free options, they just need people to plan them and put them on. For example: movie nights, game nights, potlucks, sing-alongs, discussion groups, class. My best advice is to go with the flow and accept change as inevitable or suggest and be willing to help with something more to your liking. Hope these ideas helped.
Sealia

Multicultural recipe of the month. Mary Morissette's French Canadian meat pie
(This is my great aunt's recipe)
3 pounds of lean pork (shoulder) 1 pound of lean beef 1 onion
Season to taste with salt, pepper, cinnamon, and/or cloves. Stir meat with enough water to cover. Cook for one hour. When meat is cooked, skim off top fat. Add ½ cup to 1-cup bread crumbs. Stir and place in pie shell. Cover with top crust. This pie is served hot. Partly cook it if intending to freeze it or eat at a later time.
Meat pies are traditionally served on New Year's day but they can be enjoyed at any time.
I'd like to include a recipe in every issue. They can be sent to newsletter@sealhirise.com or left in the suggestion box.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we can’t eat money
THE PEACE POLE PROJECT The Peace Pole Project started in Japan in 1955 by Masahisa Goi, who decided to dedicate his life to spreading the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth ” in response to the bombings on Hiroshima. Peace Poles are handcrafted monuments erected the world over as international symbols of Peace. Their purpose is to spread the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in a different language, one on each side.
Seal Hi-Rise Peace Pole can be seen in the community room next to the United States Flag.
Peace begins in the heart and mind of each individual. As war begins with thoughts of war, Peace begins with thoughts of Peace The Peace Pole reminds us to keep Peace ever-present in our thoughts As we learn to honor one another, our environment, plants, animals and all creation on Earth, the vision of global Peace will gradually become a natural way of life, a true culture of Peace.
We are facing an age where the politics of the world must be carried out by each individual who repeats the words “May Peace Prevail On Earth” thus becomes a great force for realizing Peace in the world. - Founder Masahisa Goi
