Free Cell Phone Information

Basics:

Currently approved plan is from Free Phone MN (Life Wireless)

You get:

  • Cell phone

  • Charger

Plan gives you 250 free minutes a month. Text messages count for one minute of talk time.

Calls to the 611 information number don't count against your monthly minutes.

Phones are refurbished basic models. Nicer phones are available for $20.00

Life Wireless will replace a phone once in two years. (In case of loss or breakage.)

Important notes:

The service number is available until midnight. Evening is the best time to call.

There is a 60 day no usage rule. If you don't use the phone once in 60 days you will be removed from the plan.

You can only have one lifeline plan (either landline or cell phone).

If you use up your minutes before the next month starts you can purchase more. (The phone will stop working until you do or the next month starts.)

Minutes can be purchased at Wal-Mart, CVS, or through Moneygram.

Who is eligible:

Anyone receiving government aid. This includes programs like Medicaid and food stamps. It also includes SSI, Social Security disability, and VA disability.

To receive a phone you must show proof you are receiving aid. You also will need to have a picture ID with your current address on it.
