Seal Hi-Rise Resident Council Minutes

April 19, 2011


Meeting Called to Order: President Vu Dang called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2011. Officers Vu Dang, Melissa Pappas, Rosie Leisze, and Daniel Sarasti in attendance.


Reports

Reading of Minutes: The March minutes were read by President Vu Dang. They were accepted as read.


President’s Council Report: Vu Dang read the President's Council Report. All PHA high-rises now have computers for residents. April is Volunteer Month.


Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer’s Report was read by Melissa Pappas. The balance is $3,095.56 and the report will be filed for audit.


Manager’s Report: Ana New York said apartment inspections would begin in May and the inspection schedule would be posted. The manager’s safety talk will be conducted in May. Residents asked Ana if she could make the report interactive for the residents so that they would be more attentive and involved. PHA is working on a new parking policy. When the policy is enacted, everyone will have to reregister their automobiles. Anna informed Residents that no-parking signs had been placed on the west side of Seal Street. A list of persons trespassed from PHA property is posted on the main bulletin board. Ana says that in the future, she will highlight the list for persons who were trespassed for violations committed at Seal Hi-Rise.


Nominating Committee: Members of the nominating Committee are Lauree Stolarcyzk, Barbara Williams, Edward Eubanks, and Daniel Sarasti. Jesse Thomas, President Council election judge addressed the /Council. He said nominations may go to the end of the May Resident Council Meeting. No person can run for more than one office. Nominated persons must be residents of Seal Hi-Rise, 18 years of age or older, and be lease compliant. Persons who have a payee may not serve as treasurer. President Council can appoint peer advisors to till secretary and treasurer positions if no one is elected to the positions. There would be a $25 month stipend for persons appointed to these positions. Resident council should start canvassing for a Community Building Liaison.


Computer Committee: Nothing new to report.


Kitchen Committee: There was no report from the Kitchen Committee.


Sunshine Committee: All cards for the month will be delivered at the beginning of the month.


Garden Committee: Laurie Stolarcyzk reminded Council that there was no one serving on the Garden Committee.


Picnic Committee: Edward Eubanks announced that the first meeting for the Summer picnic committee would be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30 in the community room. All residents were urged to attend.


Vending Committee: On a 3 to 2 vote, the Vending Committee recommended awarding 2011-2012 vending contract to C & S Vending. Initial vote on committee’s recommendation held on April 12, 2011. Lauree Stolarcyzk made motion to continue vote on recommendation. Motion Seconded. Motion carried. 5 additional residents voted. Motion made by Edward Eubanks for Ana New York to tabulate vote and announce the outcome during current meeting. Motion Seconded. Motion carried. On a 38 to 5 vote, the Resident Council rejected committee’s recommendation and voted to maintain services of M&M Vending for 2011-2012 council year.


Closing Rituals

Dime a Time was won by Vu Dang. Abraha Michael won the door prize. Meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
