Residents Council Meeting Minutes

Seal Resident Council Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 10, 2010

At 6:41 PM, the meeting was called to order, and the pledge of
allegiance was recited.

Council Reports

6:42 PM:

The pro tem secretary, Vu Dang, read the previous month's meeting
minutes.
The minutes were filed as stood.

6:48 PM:

The treasurer, Melissa Pappas, gave the Treasurer's report.
The ending balance was $2,398.68.
The report was filed as stood.

6:50 PM:

The Council President, Lauree, gave the President's Council Report, as
follows:

We are aiming for a 100% return rate for the coming census.
The city of St. Paul missed a grant of $4 Million by 1100 people,
less than the amount of people within the various high rises.

We are still working on the cookbook and still need recipes.
Please use generics instead of brand names in the recipes.
------------------------------------
We're looking to obtain brand new computers, three for each high-
rise.
------------------------------------
Food support people will be approving or denying applications.
------------------------------------
The St. Paul Fire department will be offering kitchen fire training.
------------------------------------
We're looking to starting up the door watch again, with training
available.
------------------------------------
The annual picnic is coming up, with our goal to increase
attendance. More prizes are available this year.
------------------------------------
The treasurer announced that next year, the President Council will
have an additional $6,000.00 in the funds.
------------------------------------
Clarification: Every resident, even the ones sharing a unit, can
have parking space for a car.
------------------------------------
This month we'll be having a vendor's fair. We'll see what they have
to offer and bring back results to the Resident Councils.
------------------------------------
Renter's insurance will be available for residents whose sprinklers
go off as the result of a neighboring unit's sprinklers.

6:58 PM:

Beth gave the manager's report, as follows:

Volunteers will be here on Tuesday to help with taxes. Sign up will
begin at 9:00 AM and end at 11:00 AM.
Ana will be back on March 15th.
As for renter's insurance, you don't have to buy it.

Old/New Business

7:03 PM:

The following items were put up for a vote:

Changes to the bylaws to include TV, Video, and computer guidelines.
Pat motioned to approve the changes. Barb seconded.
14 voted in favor. The motion passed.

7:09 PM:

Changes to the computer user guidelines.
Pat motioned to approve the changes. Carol seconded.
12 voted in favor. The motion passed

7:12 PM:

Changes to the Space Use Agreement.
Bonnie suggesting taking out reference to the piano and pool table,
and put in references to the TV, Video, and Computer.
Emphasis was made that no alcohol is allowed in the community room,
including beer, and that all beverages that look like beer should be
checked with the management.
Bonnie motioned to approve the changes. Barb seconded.
14 voted in favor. The motion passed.

7:21 PM:
A change so that residents can use the community room for sales, as
long as guests are invited.
Additionaly, the number of guests should be noted on the space use
agreement.
Fundraisers were not considered sales.
Bonnie made a motion to approve the modifications. Pat seconded.
15 voted in favor. The motion passed.

Bonnie motioned to approve the use of the community room space for
sales, to be included in the bylaws. Carol seconded. A vote was made.
The motion passed.

7:27 PM:

References to "payment" have to be deleted in the section on the
Holiday Party in the bylaws. Instead, the term "suggested donation" will
be used.
Pat motioned to change the wording. It was seconded. The motion
passed.

7:30 PM:

Discussion occured over the need for a nominating committee for the
election.
This year, committee members need to hold a forum where people can
come down and ask the candidates questions.
Pat Kramer, Dan Sarasti, Carol, and Bonnie Reynolds volunteered to
be a part of the committee.

7:35 PM:

The Council President requested that we agree on an Election day,
time, and place.
The Council agreed to post information so that those interested in
running for the Council Board know where to go and who to talk to.

7:39 PM:

The following people volunteered to be Floor Representatives:

7:43 PM:
More discussion occured over the Election time, day, and place.
It was clarified that officers CAN share a position.
There was a motion to have the election day on Tuesday, June 8th,
2010, with pizza to follow. Dan seconded. The motion passed.

Issues and Concerns

7:57 PM:

A concern was raised about some residents littering the back door
area with food and dog crap, and the rodents and field mice that this
might attract.
Beth suggested that residents let management know if they spot
someone not picking up after their dog, and to take note of the type of
dog.

8:00 PM:

Other issues were brought up as follows:

We still need a spot light for the peace pole.
Painting for the seal light has to come from management.
We want to look into cleaning up the lobby area.
We're looking for volunteers for the peace pole dedication.
We need to discuss bird baths. A cement birdbath was suggested.
The new wireless modem is up and running.

8:05 PM:

Upcoming events:

Diversity Meeting: Thursday at 6:00 PM, before Bengo.
Income Tax Help: Tuesday, March 16th. Sign-up from 9 AM to 11 AM.
St. Patrick's Day: Wednesday, March 17th.
A committee meeting: March 22nd, to discuss the summer months and
volunteer appreciation.
Food distribution: Tuesday, March 22nd.
A Seal Chit Chat Meeting: Wednesday, March 23rd
Spring Egg Decorating: Sunday March 28

8:07 PM:

Rosie and Bonnie announced a chili fundraiser for Haiti, taking
place Saturday, April 10, at 2:00pm.
For the fundraiser to be a success, a dollar would be charged per
measuring cup of chili, and proceeds would go to Doctors without
Borders.
Only chili and cheese would be provided. Everything else, such as
crackers, sour cream, dishware, utensils, etc., must be provided by the
attendee.

8:09 PM:

Barbara won the dime-a-time

Apartment Drawing:
1402 was drawn, and the recipient got $20

Attendance and Special Door Prize Drawing:
Peggy won the Five-Dollar Drawing
Leean won the Special Drawing.

Finally, Leanne and Pat Kramer agreed to provide treats for the next
meeting.
