Residents Council Meeting Minutes

Seal Resident Council Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, May 12, 2010

At 6:43 PM, the meeting was called to order, and pledge of
allegiance was recited.

Council members held a moment of silence for the officer Joe
Bergeron.

------------------------------------
6:44 PM:

Vu Dang, the pro tem secretary, read the meeting minutes from April,
2010. The minutes were filed as read.

------------------------------------
6:51 PM:

Melissa, the treasurer, delivered the treasurer's reoprt.
A suggestion was made to add pop to one of the items, along with a
further breakdown of the QWest bill, and a breakdown of the RPC fund to
show $400 for the Peace Pole event. Otherwise, the report was filed as
read.
The ending balance was $1,569.10.

At 6:58 PM, Lauree, the council president, delivered The President's
Council report as follows:

There's a bench available for $79. Maintenance said they'd be
willing to have it installed if we go buy it.
Bonnie made a motion that we buy the bench and get maintenance to
install it. The motion was seconded. 12 voted in favor. The motion
passed.

Ana, the building manager, admonished the council to check the bench
within the box to make sure that all the pieces are intact, as the cast
iron has a tendency to break.

7:04 PM:

The President Council's annual luncheon is coming up. Dan, bonnie,
Rosie are attending along with people from maintenance.

We still need still need cookbook recipes.

The annual spring picnic is coming up for June 26th at 10Am to 2PM.
There will be postings on every floor. Anyone interested in becoming a
volunteer, let me know.

At 7:06 PM, Ana gave Manager's Report as follows:

- Inspections went well for the second floor.
- The lease is still have to be signed and the dates initialed by June
1st.
- The safety has gotten better, and fewer people are being let into the
building.
- Officer Charlie will be in the community room on Sundays if you want
to come down asking questions.
- Call 911 if there's an emergency, and make sure you don't block the
entrances.
- A bit on energy saving: if you don't need the lights on, then just
turn them off. The money we save can be used to improve other things.
- The goal is to pass 82% of the inspections. Mike will report on poor
house keeping, so don't slack off.

7:14 PM:

There was a question about a hose and leak in the hair salon. Ana
said that you have to pull the hose off the faucet in the winter,
because the hose will still have some water in it, which could freeze.

7:16 PM:

Discussion occured as to when the peace pole is supposed to go in.
Ana said that she will put a work order in for it if she has to.

------------------------------------

There was no officer report, as the officer in residence was absent.

Committee Reports

Diversity:

The Peace Pole dedication is said to occur on May 19, 2010, at 5:30
PM.

Bengo Committee:

Todd and Carl said they would take over the calling of Bengo for the
summer months.

------------------------------------
Events Committee:

We still need volunteers and people who'll be reading stuff
We need some shopping done also
Anyone interested, please give me a call ...

The final issue of the newsletter for the year is coming up.

Computer Committee:

We're looking to have administrator information posted
People are trying to log in with a dialup connection
We need to post how to log in and how to connect to the wireless.
We're looking for an additional administrator also
Currently, Melissa is the administrator.

New Business:

7:20 PM:

Discussion occurred over the TV, which is still broken.
Bill suggested that we set up a TV committee that takes a survey of
how many people use the TV. A price for cabinet was established at $200,
and that we would need $700 dollars to get a TV and the cabinet.

Bill motioned to get a TV committeee.
Melissa seconded.
The vote came down to 7 for, and 8 against. The motion did not pass.
The discussion for the he was tabled, and Ana expressed that it's
quieter without the television, with fewer complaints from residents.

7:28 PM:

Discussion occured over off-leash animals being brought into the
community room.

Ana advised to give friendly reminders anyone caught doing this.
Additionally, take dogs out the back door only, and keep them away from
the flagpole when they have to go pee. Additionally, please carry a bag.
This will give a better reflection of Public Housing and avoid
complaints from neighbors.

7:35 PM:

Discussion occurred over keeping a separate laundry room for people
with animals. It was decided that we can work something out to educate
people to clean the lint traps.

7:42 PM:

A request was made for volunteers to help with shopping for flowers
for the front area.

7:45 PM:

Discussion occurred over having a thermos of coffee out in the
community room. Ed made a motion that all the utensils be locked up with
the kitchen. Bonnie seconded. There were eight in favor, and three
against. The motion passed.

------------------------------------
7:49 PM:

Pat needed a break from her daily kitchen duty. She made a motion to
keep the kitchen closed on Saturday, just for the summer. Bonnie
seconded.
11 voted in favor, and the motion passed.

7:52 PM:

A question was asked:
How do we determine new residents' apartment numbers for welcome
packets?
The manager establish that this information could not be given out.

------------------------------------
8:00 PM:

The gas smell problem continues. Ana assured that while the gas
smell is a concerned, it is normal and occurs due to condensation.
A phone number was given: 1-800-489-4959

------------------------------------
8:04 PM:

Discussion occurred over noises heard from the 13th and 14th floor,
which was attributed to a vent on the roof. Residents could call in a
work order so that maintenance knows about it.

8:05 PM:

The wireless modem is still being rented. Vu made a motion that we
look into buying a modem to save money. Peggy seconded. 10 residents
voted in favor. The motion passed.

------------------------------------
8:10 PM:

Bird Baths -- held off until the next year.

------------------------------------
8:10 PM:

If there is no Resident Council next year ... then the only thing
the President's Council can take care of as the bending machine.

8:11 PM:

Nominations:

The committee could not make a report because there had not been
meetings nor had they been able to find anyone to fill any of the board
positions.
After plenty of discussion, the candidates were as follows:
Ed Eubanks for Secretary
Bonnie and Vu for co-Presidents
Bill mcandrews for vice president
Rosie liesze for fifth officer
Daniel saresti for sixth officer
Jane stepped down from her candidacy for Secretary

8:22 PM:

Election is set to occur on June 8 at 6:30 p.m.

------------------------------------
8:24 PM:

It was announced that Mrs. Pappas will be talking to anyone
interested in creating kitchen kits for women escaping abuse.

------------------------------------

For next month: vending contract renewals.

Beth offered to do snacks for the next meetng.
